Have you heard about the Authentic-STEM project? π€π
I’m thrilled to introduce you to an exciting and innovative initiative that’s taking STEM education to the next level! π Authentic-STEM brings together students from Germany and the USA to work in international “Solver-Teams” on real, challenging STEM problems.
Imagine this: teenagers aged 13 to 18 work for four months on genuine tasks provided by companies. Whether it’s optimizing logistics or designing products, the teams develop creative solutions for intriguing challenges. They are supported by experienced mentors from both countries and use modern digital tools that are standard in the global business world. π‘π»
What makes this project special? It tackles real problems that require real solutions. The collaboration and exchange not only enhance STEM skills but also foster communication, project work, and intercultural teamwork. ππ
The best part? The project has already demonstrated its ability to offer particularly motivating and inspiring experiences for students who are often underrepresented in STEM fields. π©βπ¬π¨βπ¬
Stay tuned to learn more about the exciting results and future developments of Authentic-STEM! ππ

Second STEM4Inclusive Schools Meeting in Poland
We are excited to announce the second STEM for Inclusive Schools Meeting, taking place from September 3rd to 5th, 2024 in Radom, Poland. This significant conference, organized by Siec Badawcza Lukasiewicz – Instytut Technologii Eksploatacji, will provide a platform to showcase the progress of our project and plan the next steps.
The meeting will begin with a warm welcome to the participants and an overview of the agenda. This will be followed by presentations of the current project results, with each partner introducing their institution. We will then provide a detailed insight into project management, including the use of the online tool for finance and project administration, as well as the dissemination and utilization of project outcomes.
Subsequent discussions will focus on the progress of STEM activities and the development of open educational resources (OER), with an emphasis on data collection, initial learning and teaching activities, and the next steps in OER development.
In the afternoon, we will concentrate on the toolkit and digital tools for measurement and evaluation, including methods for assessing competencies and developing digital tools.
The meeting will conclude with a discussion on the upcoming steps and planning for future activities. The day will end with a workshop evaluation and a joint dinner.
We look forward to a productive conference and valuable contributions to advancing STEM education for inclusive schools!
STEM Learning: A Mission for Better STEM Education
STEM Learning is dedicated to improving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education sustainably. The project offers a variety of initiatives designed to support both teachers and students. These include professional development for teachers (CPD), targeted training in STEM subjects, the STEM Ambassador Programme, which brings STEM role models directly into schools, and bespoke, long-term support for groups of schools in collaboration with businesses through the ENTHUSE Partnerships.
What sets STEM Learning apart is its close collaboration with the UK government, companies, organizations, and educational institutions to create positive STEM experiences for teachers, young people, and beyond. Special thanks go to the key funders, including the Gatsby Foundation, the Nuffield Foundation, UK Research and Innovation, and Welcome, who have supported the project since 2004. Numerous strategic partners and supporters also contribute to its success.
Professional Development for Primary Teachers
A core component of STEM Learning is comprehensive professional development for primary teachers. The range of STEM CPD courses, developed by experienced STEM educators, offers more flexibility and options than ever before. Given the limited time for professional development, teachers can select courses and formats that suit their needs, ensuring that participation has a positive impact on their teaching and their students’ learning outcomes. More information about the courses can be found on the STEM Learning website.
The STEM Community for Educators
STEM Learning also includes an active community of over 20,000 members, including teachers, technicians, teaching assistants, and school administrators. This community provides a platform for exchange and collaboration to improve educational outcomes in STEM. Interested individuals can join the community and benefit from a network aimed at advancing STEM education for young people. Learn more about the community here: STEM Community.
Through these diverse offerings, STEM Learning helps to inspire the next generation and prepare them for a successful future through the power of STEM subjects.
What is STEM and Why is it Important?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These disciplines are central to the modern world and form the foundation for many future-oriented careers.
For students, STEM is important because it helps them develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a spirit of innovation. In a world increasingly shaped by technology and science, STEM skills open up many career opportunities and prepare students for the challenges of the future.
Teachers should encourage students in these subjects because they not only impart knowledge but also help build new skills that are valuable in nearly all areas of life. By supporting and encouraging students in STEM subjects, teachers help spark interest and enthusiasm in these fields and contribute to shaping the next generation of innovators, scientists, and engineers.
Why is STEM important?
STEM is not only the foundation for technological advancements and scientific discoveries but also promotes creative thinking and teamwork. It prepares students to solve complex problems and actively shape the world. In a rapidly changing job market, STEM provides a clear advantage and ensures the long-term success and competitiveness of the next generation.
Letβs encourage our students to engage in these fieldsβthe future needs their ideas and talents! ππ¬π
